Toyota Speed Sensor
Your car is equipped with a speed sensor to give you the information of how fast
or slow your car is through the speedometer gauge, cruise control unit and TCU.
The speed can be known by looking into the bobbin or the cylindrical wire or spool
shaped coil which speaks for the speed of the car. As the car gets faster, the
frequency of the wheel magnet goes beyond the sensor. The speed sensor detects
the slowness or fastness of the car through the number of revolution produced
by the transmission output shaft. The final output is the result of the translation
of the mechanical rotation into electronic impulses.

There are different types of speed sensors that you can use for your car. One
of which is a speedometer. Speedometers for car usually give a value higher than
the actual speed to ensure that the driver or operator will not exceed the legal
speed limit which can be one of the factors of accidents and collisions. The information
it can give may not be as accurate as the real speed since there are several affecting
factors such as tire diameter or error in the transmission. Electronic speedometers
are also used which involves a computer to change the interval between pulses
into a digital display. The accumulated count of the pulses can also be used to
determine the distance traveled.
A tachometer is also used to determine the speed by showing the rate of rotation
produced by the crankshaft. It measures the spark rate of the ignition system
usually in rpm units. It is of great aid to the driver in choosing the best type
of gear and throttle settings which can change depending on the driving conditions.
However it can only be used at a certain limit which is usually connected with
the speed of the car. Excess speed especially when used at a long time can cause
damage. Replacements are available in any on-line store.
