Isuzu Parts
Isuzu is known today as Japan’s leading truck manufacturer and a world-leader
in the design and development of diesel engines. In fact, Isuzu has already manufactured
more than 17 million diesels since its predecessor developed Japan's first air-cooled
automotive diesel engine in 1936. And Japan’s leading diesel producer is highly
respected throughout the world.
The beginnings of Isuzu dates back in 1916, when Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding
and Engineering Co., Ltd. and Tokyo Gas and Electric Industrial Co. initiated
plans to build automobiles. Two years later they concluded a technical tie-up
agreement with Wolseley Motors of England that resulted to the creation of the
first passenger car ever made in Japan in 1922, the Wolseley A9 car.
The name Isuzu was formally used in their vehicles in 1934 before Isuzu River;
a year after Ishikawajima Automotive Works merged with Dot Automobile Manufacturing
Inc., and changed its name to Automobile Industries Co., Ltd. After the war in
1949, the company was renamed Isuzu Motors Limited.
In the following years, Japan experienced fuel shortage that pushed the company
to produce Isuzu's bonnet-type truck in 1959- the DA640. With excellent fuel economy,
rugged performance on bumpy roads and extra durability, this model boosted
Isuzu parts and makes sales. In 1961, Isuzu developed Japan's first diesel engine for passenger
cars. The DL200 model, which was mounted in 1964 on the Elf, Japan's first cab-over
light-duty truck, has gained great popularity in the market for its excellence
in economy and durability.
In 1985, Isuzu launched their first off-road vehicle- the Isuzu Trooper. The
Trooper competed face to face to its European counterpart- Jeep and Range Rover.
Today, after 7 decades in the industry and several innovations especially in
diesel engines, Isuzu has established a diesel engine supply network encompassing
Europe, North America, and Asia as well as Japan. Isuzu diesel technology is also
being utilized by GM’s Ford.
