Jeep Head Gasket
So what’s a head gasket for? Basically, head gasket is used as the leak free
seal of the engine’s head ports. It also facilitates the flow of the coolant to
cool down the engine during extreme operations. The combustion that happens on
the engine can give off to much heat which causes overheating of engine. Such
situation is prevented as the coolant passes into the pipes and chambers of the
engine. As you can see, it has holes for easier passage of the coolant.

The head gasket is positioned in between the engine block and the cylinder head
to directly absorb the heat emitted by the engine. Failure of the head gasket
to effectively perform its duty can affect the over-all efficiency of the power
train. The design of the gasket, features, position and installation can be the
factors of blown or leaking head gaskets.
Power trains with aluminum cylinder heads are the common types that experience
fast damage on the head gasket because of too much movement produced from its
fast expansion capacity. The movement can rub the head and block together which
can lead to leaks and damages. Leaks can be repaired through proper sealing which
requires thorough cleaning of the head and deck areas. Make sure that the head
gasket is fitted to the specifications and mounting points of the car. There must
be a firm contact between the surfaces to ensure effective sealing.
Debris, rocks and other abrasive particles can also be the cause of leaks. A
general purpose degreaser or gasket removing compounds offered in any auto store
can be used for cleaning. An abrasive pad can take its place but it can unevenly
scratch the metal. Cleaning your head gasket with a spray washer is also a good
choice but it can be too time consuming.
