Head Gasket

Have you experienced driving your vehicle and suddenly it gets all hot and bothered when you drive at highway speed? Such case is a symptom of engine trouble and it has nothing to do with your cooling system. When your vehicle overheats when you get it going, it may be suffering from a blown head gasket or a cracked head. You can easily tell this if you notice a foamy white stuff in your oil pan or a radiator that is bulging in one or more spots.

The head gasket is a part of the engine system which is responsible for containing all the heat and compression generated by your car’s engine. It is one of the most critical gaskets in an engine because it has to seal all of the combustion chambers. It has to seal the coolant and oil passages between the head and block as well. The moment it is first installed, it provides a leak-free seal and it maintains that seal for the life of the engine.

When a head gasket fails, the reason could be because of the design issues of the engine or the gasket itself, installation errors, or operating conditions that overstress the gasket and cause it to fail like preignition, detonation and overheating. And if this happens, you have to fix it immediately before you damage the radiator any further. A damaged head gasket allows the cylinder heat and pressure to be transferred to the cooling system via the water jackets on which this pressure makes the radiator blow up like a balloon. This now causes leaks at the seams and tubes.

In order to repair this problem, you need replacement head gasket for your vehicle. Whether you are looking for a Toyota head gasket, BMW head gasket, Honda head gasket, or Mazda head gasket, you can easily find them at online car parts store. But before you install one, make sure that the finish on the face of the cylinder head and block deck should be relatively flat, smooth and clean.
