Saturn Harmonic Balancer
Just as the heat is harmful, unwanted engine noise is also a deterrent factor
for an excellent working engine system. As the heat is needed to be dissipated
in an engine system, when the unpleasant sound is generated when the process of
power transmission through the crankshaft is undergoing it should also be put
under control. And why is this so? Because it is a major destructive element that
endanger the engine’s performance and its life, and this should be given remedy
before the engine fell into serious predicament. Excessive engine noise will equate
to innumerable disastrous results that are doomed to plague the engine and the
entire operation of the vehicle when this is not controlled.
The harmful sound created is more known technically as torsional vibration. It
is considered a nuisance to any machinery because it can create tremendous amount
of damaging results. If not given with immediate treatment, there would not be
only a single damage that your engine will incur but many of them. The most serious
damage that torsional vibration may result to is that those that are related to
gear noise and coupling wear. Fortunately, modern technology has once again intervened
to counter this problem and invented harmonic balancer, a device meant to minimize,
if not to eliminate excessiveness of the torsional vibrations. Through this creation,
noise engines are made a lot calmer and prevented more damage to occur in the
engine of your vehicle.
Harmonic balancer is mounted to the front part of the crankshaft. It is a composition
of rubber parts and spring loaded friction discs serving as the actual dampers
with inner steel ring and outer steel ring that has grooves for the belt. These
components are involved in the dampening routine of the device to treat engine
noise that is generated from the internal combustion. And this routine has made
the harmonic balancer never exempted from the damaging results often met by different
moving automotive parts of your vehicle. If your Saturn harmonic balancer has
incurred damage, the crankshaft would again produce torsional vibration. If this
is experienced already, it should be replaced with a new one to prevent any more
damage to occur into your Saturn engine.
