Pontiac Coolant Tank
Are you wondering why a Pontiac vehicle performs so well, sometimes performing
even better than higher priced vehicles? It is because Pontiac vehicles are actually
designed to act that way. Pontiac vehicles are aimed to be sporty and high performance
yet not as pricey as the luxury GM vehicles. Actually, there are many parts responsible
for this amazing performance of Pontiac vehicles. Topping them all, however, is
the properly cooled Pontiac engine.
The Pontiac engine performs well because of two factors. The first factor is
the design of the engine itself. Pontiac engines are brilliantly engineered so
as to give the vehicle the sporty and aggressive performance it needs. The other
factor is the quality of the Pontiac engine cooling system. Equipped with parts
that allow the coolant to circulate through the system properly, the Pontiac cooling
system can efficiently maintain the proper operating temperature needed by the
engine to perform well.
The Pontiac cooling system, however, won’t be able to carry out its function
properly if it will always run out of coolant. For this to be avoided, every Pontiac
cooling system is equipped with a high quality Pontiac coolant tank. A coolant
tank is a semi-transparent plastic tank used to hold the coolant as it expands.
Coolants would often expand as the engine gets hot. In older vehicles, this expanding
coolant is simply allowed to spill out of an overflow tube. In new vehicles, this
spill out is avoided by allowing the expanding coolant to accumulate into the
coolant tank, although this coolant would eventually flow back to the radiator
as the cooling system gets cooler. Because of this, the coolant tank is also often
(and more popularly) called the coolant expansion tank, coolant overflow tank,
coolant recovery tank or simply coolant reservoir.
Aside from allowing the coolant to expand, your Pontiac’s coolant reservoir also
serves other purposes. First, the markings on the coolant tank’s semi-transparent
surface would allow you to easily measure the coolant level on the cooling system.
Most new Pontiac vehicles would even let you add coolant to your vehicle through
the coolant tank cap instead of the traditional way of feeding it to the radiator
cap.
